I’m really happy to fill you guys in on what I’ve been working on for a while now. It’s very exciting when you’re able to bring about an initiative that you have such passion for and will hopefully bring positive change to the industry.

Throughout my career, I’ve always been known as the California beach girl, with an image of always being tan and healthy. It was a requirement for my work that I was tan and stay that way all year. I turned to tanning beds, as most girls did that I worked with. I knew that this was not healthy and I would pay for it later but I didn’t have many options at the time. It was my job and I needed a quick solution. At the time, sunless tanning products looked extremely fake, smelled awful and were expensive. After a couple of years of going to tanning beds, I started to feel really uneasy about health issues I was trying to ignore. I was seeing a lot of my fans at appearances and events looking like they were addicted to tanning and trying to mimic the beach lifestyle I was projecting. Most were young girls and I felt responsible for representing an image that wasn’t healthy for women. From that point on, I started spray tanning exclusively- no more beds for me. Even if it meant my toes and hands were orange!

The spray tan solutions were starting to improve greatly and the awareness of the dangers of going to tanning beds was on the rise. I started to speak out about my experiences with tanning a few years ago and spread the word for skin cancer prevention. I wanted to support foundations and preventative awareness campaigns whenever possible. I was also educating myself and starting to find ways to achieve the color I needed without putting myself in harm’s way. But I would feel almost guilty when people would interview me asking about the products I used. I knew that most women would not have access to these products because they were either super specialized and not available everywhere or were very expensive. I could get a custom spray tan for $100.00 because it was part of my job, but that is not practical for everyone.

It was really frustrating because I wanted there to be a real alternative to tanning beds, that was organic and looked beautiful. I didn’t want girls to learn the hard way like I did and put their health at risk for a tan. My passion for changing this cosmetic culture has allowed me to focus on this initiative and bring awareness. During this time, I met one of the largest tanning salon owners in the US, in which we both shared this passion for a healthy change and partnered to create a newly founded company called Glissin. Under the launch of this new brand, my focus is to provide education on the healthiest way to get natural looking color and self-educate on the dangers of UV exposure. The salons are state-of-the-art, and specialize in only sunless spray tanning. The tanning solutions and products are organic and contain quality ingredients resulting in a gorgeous, natural color!

I really look forward to introducing everybody to this new brand and will speak more about the plans ahead for the brand. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to create a positive change and provide others with this great alternative! For now you can go to

becoming a mother

It’s been a really long time since I’ve written a blog post, so much has happened! The main and most important reason my focus and attention has shifted, is my beautiful boy Gavin. I really wanted to be able to enjoy my pregnancy and the whole journey of this amazing process, without worrying about traveling and running myself crazy like the last 15 years! I was able to do so in Santa Cruz, surrounded by my family, and focus on being as healthy as possible. I’ve always looked forward to becoming a mother, and it has exceeded my all expectations. The challenges have been harder then I thought, but the love and fullness of my heart has been beyond what I imagined too. Gavin is 16 months now, and he is the light of our lives.

I’ve really enjoyed the community of other Mom’s who have shared advice and tips during pregnancy and after the baby is born. I’ve learned so much from other great women and I’d love to pass on any information that might be helpful to others. Feel free to ask!

I’ll will be posting next about my latest project I’ve been working on for a while and very excited to share!

Stay tuned!

Much love, Marisa

Oscar Parties

I remember my first year getting invited to the Oscar parties was in 2003. I was pretty new to the business so I hadn’t been to many events. I was nervous about going to something of this size and scale and not knowing what to expect. I had never worn a gown or anything that dressy before (Prom doesn’t count). The first year, I didn’t even do the press line because I was too nervous. A woman, who was running the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party, asked if I’d step on the carpet for a few photos. I looked up at the red carpet and there was Oprah getting her picture taken. There was no way I was going to get my photo taken after Oprah, haha!! So I hurried inside. The party ended up being really fun and I felt right at home when I saw In-N-Out Burger was being served! It was hilarious seeing all the girls in gowns and eating burgers.

It can always be a little stressful trying to find something to wear to events, but this year, I ended up wearing the first dress I tried on. I wanted to wear something long because there are only so many places you can wear something this dressy, so I wanted to really go for it. This Johanna Johnson dress was amazing. All hand beaded and really heavy. I loved the dramatic neckline, the back and the long train. Walking in a train is always tricky because you have to make sure you aren’t getting stepped on all night, but it’s also a funny way of meeting people by asking them to get off your dress!

Hope you enjoy some of the photo’s from my camera.

Much love,
